Frequently asked questions (FAQ):

What is the difference between mobile dentistry and portable dentistry?

In the United States, dentistry conducted outside of a traditional office setting is often referred with the general term "mobile dentistry”.  In Massachusetts a dentist or dental hygienist can apply for specific permits for dentistry outside of a typical office setting:

  • Permit M-Mobile Dental Facility-MDF: In Massachusetts a mobile dental facility involves dentistry performed inside a custom dental van or trailer.

  • Permit M-Portable Dental Operation-PDO: In Massachusetts a portable dental operation occurs when dental services are provided when high tech, portable equipment is brought into a patient's home or any location convenient to the patient.  Working with the PDO permit and portable equipment is the type of dentistry provided by Cleary Place Dentist.  In addition to dental care provided to patients in their own homes, other locations served under the PDO dental permit can be health fairs, schools and assisted living facilities.

What happens to the dental instruments after you leave my house?

Your health and safety are our top priority. We follow strict protocols to ensure all dental instruments are sterile, adhering to or exceeding CDC guidelines and industry standards.  To guarantee optimal sterilization performance, we send weekly tests to an independent facility for validation.  If you'd like a copy of the most recent spore test results, we would be happy to provide them.

What areas or towns does Cleary Place Dentist provide in home dental care?

Generally, we provide in home dental care to the cities and towns in Middlesex, Norfolk and Suffolk Counties in Massachusetts. If you live in Massachusetts but outside this service area and have not been successful in finding at home dental care, please send us an email and we will try to connect you to a Public Health Dental Hygienist or Dentist who serves your region.

What range of patient ages does Cleary Place Dentist treat?

Cleary Place Dentist provides in home dental care to adults of all ages and children over 14 years old. Younger children may be considered on a case-by-case basis with referral from a pediatrician or pediatric dentist specifying the need for a general dentist visiting the patient’s house.

How do you take dental radiographs (x-rays)?

Cleary Place Dentist utilizes digital radiographs generated by a handheld device. These images are displayed on a laptop for you to review with the dentist. The radiographs taken in your own home are identical in quality and safety to those taken at a more traditional dental office. Radiographs can be printed or emailed as needed when collaborating with dental specialists. (See photo below)
